Subject: Celtics, Bill Walton, and "Back from the Dead"
In Bill Walton's book "Back from the Dead" he writes about this evening, it's worth checking out. Walton contradicts what Bakeo says, however, about Danny Ainge being present; Walton reports that everyone from the Celtics was there EXCEPT Danny whose wife apparently wouldn't let him go!
BTW, "Back from the Dead" is a beautiful, generous, inspiring read and if you're remotely into sports, the Dead, good vibes, the sanctity of a team, or overcoming relentless adversity, you will be well rewarded for reading it.
(Didn't rate this show because I haven't listened to it yet - just wanted to comment on the Celtics thing)

Concur with the folks who have already noted it -- the quality of this AUD recording is just outstanding. The show is solid, Shakedown in particular.
Many thanks for sharing.

Very cool Oade PCM recording. Great sound with a good performance from the band. The Oade Brothers pioneered the use of the PCM digital recorder in the mid-eighties.
If you want to hear the "Happy Birthday" to Bill Walton, I chose another recording to hear it. Kinda half-baked attempt. I have seen Walton at several Dead concerts in California...I even saw him riding a custom bicycle at Long Beach Arena that seemed about 10 feet tall.
Interesting stories about the Celtics attending this concert. Check out the link below: it says most of the team attended and had their own "alcove" where they could hide out on the side of the stage. The Band then returned the favor by hanging out at the Celtics practice the next day. Greatness is reciprocated.

I have major hearing problems. It’s called tinnitus and for those of you who don’t know it is a constant ringing in your ears. Therefore, it is hard for me to find audience shows that are of good enough quality for me to listen to without doing further damage to my hearing by having to turn up the volume. I am not saying anything about these shows except that as a person with major hearing lose, these are some of the shows that I have on my I-Pod. I am not giving any of these shows a review. I can always find something good in every show…...as long as I can hear it!!!! Here is my list for today, 9/20/08:
7.6.84, 10.15.84, 6.19.91,

Gotta love these 85 Oades recordings. 1st set is smoking with a killer TLEO. Bird song is also very nice. With the exception of a hot Shakedown opener and a spacy Supplication the 2nd set doesn't touch the 1st. Great recording. Much better than the sbd.

Wow! I agree with the previous comment on the sound of this recording - simply amazing, and preferable to most SBDs out there. Capturing the essence of Phil's thundering bass in the confines of a large room is no easy task, but it's been done once again by the Oade bros. This show was right in the midst of a very good period for the band as a whole (Jerry's vocal problems aside), and the energy here is captured for all time. Crisp, tight playing; bright, deep, resonant sound.

Bill Walton, Danny Ainge, and Larry Bird were all on stage for this smoking show. Great Tom Thumb with Phil wailing out the lyrics. Bobby sang Happy Birthday to Walton to open the 2nd set and grooved into a great Shakedown.

I gave the SBD a five star, but this recording is off the charts. It's probably the best Oade job I've heard yet. And by the sounds of the .txt setlist file, it seems like a lot of hard work was put into making this recording ever better. Again, one of my favorite Shakedowns and Tom Thumbs of all time.
